Acupuncture and Self Care for Prostate Health

Acupuncture/ Shiatsu for Mens Health

The Chinese have discovered hundreds of acupuncture points that relate to the internal organs by way of meridian networks.  Meridians are a network of energy pathways that connect points to one another and to the organs and glands. These meridians connect the 12 organs. Acupuncture works to balance the body on endocrine level. By needling or pressing on these points, relief of symptoms can ensue. It releases muscular tension, balances hormones, promote circulations of the blood and stimulates the body’s natural self curative abilities. Acupuncture can release endorphins and other natural substances in your body that block pain.  It can also help to detoxify the body of waste products. It releases toxins that are built up in the body’s tissue so drink water.

Acupuncture for Prostate Health

It is best performed as a full body treatment by an certified acupuncturist to reach all the pertinent points relevant to your problems and symptoms. I like to combine acupuncture with other body therapies such as full lymphatic massage using essential oils and Reiki. This integrated treatment regulates hormones, strengthens your immune system and relieves symptomatic complaints.

The major points for prostate health are on the Kidney meridian. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the kidney is responsible for our “essence”, including the vitality of reproductive organs such as prostate in men and ovaries in women. A healthy prostate must have healthy flow of chi in the Kidney Meridian.  A treatment would include small needles on the back for kidney essence (urinary bladder 23 and Du 4) as well as Kidney 3 and 10 on legs. The prostate reflex point is on the inner ankle on Urinary bladder point 62. On the front of the body, it would be important to needle points on the Ren meridian such as Ren 3, 4 and 6 that improve chi flow in the body specifically to sexual organs.

Acupressure Self Care for Prostate Health: At home, you can massage or apply pressure to these points to help balance the chi and offer symptomatic relief of symptoms.

UrinaryReflex points on Feet: Massage around Achilles tendon to get reflex points of prostate, tests. Rub instep and edge of foot to get adrenals, bladder and kidney and lower spinal reflexes. Rub the little toe (BL66) and rub along the outer edge of the ankle (BL63). Circle the chart

Urinary Points on Hands: Rub thumb pad especially the web between thumb and forefinger (LI4 and LU 10). Massage below wrist crease on pad

Meridian: ST 36 on legs supports immune and digestive system. Good in general and  for detoxifying

Aging, Prostate and Men’s Health

Aging is a natural process and not a disease. There are numerous benefits to growing older but many of us associate aging with ill health and disability like heart disease, prostate problems, fatigue and arthritis. These age related disorders are mainly caused by life-style choices such as diet, environmental toxins, lack of exercise and stress and some genetic susceptibility. The more we take charge now, the more we can bring balance and harmony into our bodily systems. We can’t stop aging, it’s natural, but we do want to prevent premature aging to ensure the best and longest quality of life.

Many of you have heard about reducing the impact of free radicals in your body from toxins in our environment and improving your diet. We know the importance of diet changes and of exercise and detoxification. Hormone balance is a key to healthy aging. This is particularly true of stress hormones such as cortisol and DHEA. A deficiency or abnormal elevation of these hormones accelerates aging and immune system breakdown. In fact, all hormones are important for aging and well being. Thyroid, testosterone, estrogen and growth hormones must be kept in balance to the slow aging process and maintain good health eg your blood sugar levels. Stress appears to play a role in aging. If you have prolonged periods of stress, you are more likely to have chronic problems, especially in hormonal related problems like prostate enlargement.

4. Chakra Balancing for Men’s Health

The body is comprised of energy fields (auras) and centers (chakras) that are associated with our nerves, energy and glands where these hormones are produced.  Chakras are disc shaped like vortex. Chakras are connected to the body through energy fields or auras

There are 350 chakras and 7 major chakras and 22 minor chakras.

Benefits of Chakra Balancing For Men’s Health

Emotions and beliefs affect health through the chakra system. Thoughts and feelings impact health by manifesting first in our energy field and chakras. When energy is blocked, our nervous and endocrine system become imbalanced and we experience physical symptoms. Releasing blocks helps to alleviate symptoms and promotes well being and hormonal balance in the whole body. Body work therapies like Chakra balancing, acupressure, Reiki, Reflexology help to release these emotions and energy blocks, thereby lessening symptoms. Any chakra can be involved.  Base and 2ND Chakra is largely responsible for our reproductive and urinary systems so imbalances would appear here as blocks.

Treatment

Regular chakra balancing incorporated into treatment session with therapist is recommended. Combines well with acupressure and massage. I pay special attention to those that are out of balance on a regular basis.

For some people, they want to further explore the emotional root cause behind these blocks and we use additional emotional release healing techniques like voice dialoguing, imagery, affirmations. visualization, and cording

HERBAL REMEDIES

The prostate gland is highly sensitive to environmental and dietary toxins. To flush out wastes, do a one to 3 day juice fast. Try herbs to reduce symptoms. Recommend 320mg/day

  1. Saw Palmetto: Reduces hormone stimulation of prostate tissue. Studies show it improves urinary symptoms
  2. Pygeum Africanum: Pygeum is an extract from the back of an African tree that has a long history of use and clinical validation for reducing prostate enlargement. 160-200 mg/day
  3. Nettle Root: Extract lessens the symptoms of BPH.  120 mg/day. Often used in herbal formulas
  4. Dandelion: Hepatic and Diuretic: Helps to cleanse liver. Reduces water retention and bloating
  5. American Ginseng: Herb support adrenal function, improves energy, relaxes nervous system and has a cooling effect. Take 600 to 1200 mg daily
  6. Milk Thistle: Take to detoxify liver Find a formula that is standardized to 70-80% silymarin content. Take 250mg twice daily

Menopausal Depression & Mood Swings: Body Therapies and Herbal Remedies, Reflexology, Acupressure

DEPRESSION AND MOOD SWINGS

Volitility can be hormonal but may also be related to your inner consciousness guiding you to release certain emotional issues. .i.e Fear of no longer being wanted or lovable or loss of direction in life. Natural therapies can support the body and balance hormones and release emotional blocks before they become severe emotional symptoms.

What to Do:

Acupressure Points:  The Chinese identified hundreds of acupressure points. Stimulates the same points as acupuncture, but instead of needles, uses the pressure of the hands to release muscular tension, promote circulation of the blood and stimulate the body’s natural self curative abilities. Meridians are the energy pathways that connect acupressure points to one another and to the organs and glands that produce hormones. Applying pressure along certain meridian points triggers the flow of energy through the pathway. We call these points, trigger points because they are at a distance from the area they are benefiting.  It is fabulous for releasing emotional blocks at the root of chronic physical symptoms including those from menopause. Acupressure or acupuncture releases endorphins and other natural substances in your body that block pain. It releases toxins that are built up in the body’s tissue so drink water.Ideally, acupressure or acupuncture are integrated into full treatments session.

Self Care Acupressure: areas to rub on your body for depression include:

  1. Rub or tap crown of head  (Du 20).
  2. Rub wrists about 3 fingers above the wrist on inner arm and outer arm (P6 and SJ5);
  3. Rub inside wrist on little finger side (H7);
  4. Rub top of foot about 3 fingers width below big toe (Liv 3)

Reflex Points on Feet: Like acupressure, reflexology involves the use of therapeutic pressure of the reflex points of the foot and hand. These points coorespond to specific organs and systems in the body. Every reflex in the body has a relating reflex in the foot. The reflex points on the feet that coorespond to all the organs and hormones in the body. Pressure balances systems and organs including the glands which produce hormones during menopause. It produces a very relaxing state and body returns to state of balance as energy flows from fingers and toes to head. I work specific reflex points related to client symptoms into all treatments. It combines well with aromatherapy massage and acupressure.

Self Care Reflexology: Focus on the ovaries,  kidneys and adrenals, pituitary, thyroid:  These are found my maassaging around Achilles tendon to get reflex points of uterus, ovaries; Rub instep and edge of foot to get adrenals and spinal reflexes; Rub all around large toe and near nail. Try rubbing edge of the thumb pads and finger tips.

Chakra Balancing: Energy centers that store historical information drawn from our life experience. They are disc shaped like a vortex. Each is associated with a specific type of energy, nerves and endocrine glands (like meridians). Each is connected to the body through energy fields or auras. Like meridians, chakras offer insights. There are 350 chakras and 7 major along spine.

Self Care Chakra Balancing: Menopausal mood swings are often related the the first and second chakras. These can be balanced by visualizing red in the base chakra at tail bone and orange into second chakra at navel area. In addition there are exercises to open chakras.   Yoga and meditation practices help to balance chakras on ongoing basis. For severe symptoms, acupuncture or energy healing techniques by a certified therapist would help.

Aromatherapy with Essential oils and Lymphatic Massage: Essential Oils can be very beneficial to help the nervous system. Aromatherapy massage has a direct effect on the nervous system. There are ganglia or nerve cells around spine that serve as reflex points. Nerve fibres pass through these ganglia and form groups. They go to different organs and glands of the body. Balancing and stimulating these points through massage has a normalizing effect on the functions of these organs. Excellent for enhancing circulation, balancing nervous system, removing congestion, promoting relaxation and improving immune system Great for relieving stress associated with overuse of adrenals. The oils are best massaged into the body using lympathic massage. Many oils have relaxing, sedative or even stimulating effect on nervous system. Great for insomnia and reducing stress, headaches and anxiety and mood swings. Aromatherapy massage has a direct effect on the nervous system. The Many Layers to Releasing Unwanted Emotions and Beliefs

I have written previously that we hold our feelings and beliefs in our energy systems of our body. Bruce Lipton says that 95% of our beliefs are not even our own and yet they determine our lives. These beliefs are often negative. You know that little voice inside of your head that is critical and judgemental.  These beliefs can manifest as energy blocks in our aura, chakras (vorteces in front of body) or even the meridian systems of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They even get imbedded in the cellular matter of our body. It is my belief that many physical problems first start in our energy systems as a block or lack of movement.

I am oftened  asked  by my clients, “how do I release the emotional blocks in my body ?” It is a complex process somewhat like peeling an onion. There are many layers to our emotional issues. As you heal one layer and a pattern is released, another aspect of the issue will manifest into your life as another behaviour or pattern. For example, let’s say you have been feeling resentment toward your spouse for never spending time at home. Awareness is the most important stage of healing your emotions. You, as an enlightened individual, became aware that your abdomen hurt every time you felt this resentment. You decide to do something about it. You know that it is important for your emotional and physical health to finally let go of this resentment you felt towards your spouse. You may have experienced this resentment as a tightness in your abdomen which has been causing you digestive problems. You decide to consult with your doctor  and an energy practitioner to help you to release this unwanted emotion. You named your feelings by journaling and doing body work therapy and ultimately you forgave yourself and spouse for holding this resentment. You actively affirmed to let the resentment leave you as it no longer served your highest good. Wow you did it!

Or did you? The following week, an innocent issue crops up. Before you know it, you hear yourself saying something to your spouse which sounds suspiciously like a resentful , critical statement. Where did this come from? Didn’t you just release all this resentment? Yes you did. Remember that. But like an onion, you have many layers and so do your chronic behaviours. You just released the first layer. Now the synchronicity of life, through the Law of Attraction, will find a way to bring you the gift of another opportunity to peel the next layer of this unwanted emotion. But I believe that each subsequent layer that you release is done at a higher level of consciousness. That is to say, that you are raising your level of spirituality each time you release another layer of any negative belief pattern or feeling. This is accomplished at the energetic level through opening of the chakras (energy Vorteces where we hold emotions), clearing the auric field surrounding your body (7 layers) and the meridian network under your skin.  When we release these blocks, miracles can happen in our lives, our relationships and our health.

So each time you are aware of a negative feeling or thought, know that it comes from your ego or shadow side. It is not your true self. Your true self is only love energy and is part of everyone one of us.

Here are some practical tips to help you release your emotional baggage and unwanted beliefs:

  • Awareness of Feelings: Be vigilant of the words you choose with your relationships. Notice how you feel and where you are experiencing this emotion in your body.
  • Listen to your body: Your body is giving you messages. If you have chronic physical problems like headaches or digestive problems, examine how you “feel” when you experience these problems. What happened just before the physical problem flared up?
  • Write your feelings and observations in a journal. Monitor your behaviours. See a pattern?
  • Meditate: it will relax you, relieve stress and open your chakras for healing. Visualization techniques with colour will also help to open energy pathways.
  • Affirmations. Use positive words to affirm that you have released the negative feeling from your body. Always say them in the present tense.  For example: “I release all feelings of resentment in all directions of time. I forgive myself and allow myself to heal for the highest good of all concerned”.
  • Consult an energy healer and body therapist to facilitate chakra balancing, energy transfer  techniques to release blocks and thereby move the energy in your meridians, chakras and auric field.
  • Some crystals and colour visualizations can help too.
